It is not common these days to find a professional and a man of integrity who would shape the outlook and intellect of a profession and an important sector of our lives. In his lifetime, Dr. Benjamin Chukwudum Nnamdi Anyene took on issues of national concern as a personal duty and sacrifice to promote health rights for the benefit of the generality and to improve health outcomes.

The Board of Directors and staff of NPHD Limited received the sad news of the passing away of their Board Chairman, Dr. Benjamin. Anyene, which event occurred on the 29th day of December 2019. We are deeply pained over the passing away of this great crusader of better health and wellness.

Dr. Ben Anyene was until his death one of the founding Directors of our great organisations, NPHD Ltd, where he served as the Board Chairman from inception until his death. The overall goal of this health and development company is to provide a wholly Nigerian owned and managed health organisation that will grow partnerships for the transformation of the Nigerian health to achieve better and equitable health. His invaluable time, wisdom, energy and drive towards the establishment, growth and development of the company which we shall greatly miss is unquantifiable.

Dr. Anyene was an astute leader and key influencer with strong links to decision-makers in the health sector. He exhibited these qualities as the Board Chairman of NPHD and on other boards like NPHCDA and a one-time chairman of HERFON. He was instrumental in the transformation of the DFID supported Change Agent Program into HERFON. This foremost non-state health sector reform organization that was catalytic to most health reform initiatives of the last decade in Nigeria. He was also a pillar behind the Health Sector Reform Forum, a coalition of health-related CSOs in Nigeria which he also chaired.

We all at NPHD offer our deepest and most sincere condolences to the Anyene Family and pray that the soul of this great Nigeria, Dr. Benjamin Chukwudum Nnamdi Anyene (KSC) and other faithful departed, through the mercy of God to rest in perfect peace, Amen.
